Every year, the Pittsburgh Pirates release a calendar for fans at both PiratesFest and the home opener. For this year’s edition, the creative goal was to showcase players with a bold, intense presence set against a moody backdrop. We aimed to portray the roster as powerful to reflect the team’s competitive energy and give the calendar a striking, elevated aesthetic.
To keep the photography and tone at the forefront, the typography was intentionally minimal and secondary, supporting the visuals without competing with them. The result is a clean, dramatic calendar designed to resonate with fans and reflect the energy of the upcoming season.
Photography
We aimed for high-contrast imagery to evoke a sense of intensity, with the goal of making the players appear cinematic and bold. I directed the photoshoot in collaboration with Adrian Brown, who skillfully captured these striking images. Below are a few of the unedited shots.
